Musculoskeletal physiotherapy is an area that focuses on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of dysfunctions of the musculoskeletal system, which involves muscles, joints, bones, tendons and ligaments. In other words, it treats and prevents pathologies or conditions such as back pain, neck pain, tendonitis, lumbago, arthrosis, among others, with the aim of relieving pain, improving mobility and restoring functionality, through various therapeutic techniques and approaches – manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, dry needling, among others.
Dry needling is used to treat myofascial pain and involves inserting fine needles (similar to those used in acupuncture) into specific points in the muscles – trigger points – that can cause localized or referred pain and muscle dysfunction. The objective of dry needling is to deactivate these points, relieving muscle pain, reducing tension and promoting relaxation of muscle fibers. By stimulating the body’s response, the treatment can also improve circulation and speed up tissue recovery.
This approach is combined with other physiotherapy techniques, such as manual therapy, stretching and therapeutic exercises, and is quite effective in recovering from and preventing injuries.
